My parents bought me a Nikon when I was in high school. After getting my first roll of film back from the processor, I was hooked. I was fortunate to have excellent teachers at Elk River High School and St. Cloud State University who gave me a good technical foundation that I could build upon. While at university I was fortunate to live in England for 6 months, which helped open my eyes to the possibilities of photography. After returning from England I worked in a commercial studio which gave me a great understanding of studio light and what it takes to meet the needs of all types of clients.
Teachers and great surroundings can be great creative catalysts, but true inspiration must come from within. That inspiration came when my daughter Beatrice was born in May of 1999. Suddenly photography was no longer an academic pursuit; no longer about what camera or film I used. My camera became a means to capture emotion and expression. All the skills I had developed suddenly came alive.
After friends and family saw my images of Beatrice, I started receiving calls to do shoots. Shortly thereafter Tice Photography was established.
When I started taking pictures I had no interest in photographing people. Now, all I want to do is work with people. Every person has an interesting life journey. As a photographer it is my honor to document a moment in yours.
