Katrina’s senior session

August 19th, 2008

Yesterday afternoon I worked with Katrina.  2 years ago I worked with her sister Johanna, so yesterday was fun getting to see the family again and hear about all the awesome things happening in their life.

For Katrina I wanted to make sure that we didn’t do Johanna version 2.0.  For Katrina we worked in St.Paul and Johanna we were in Minneapolis.  Johanna was very casual with a warehouse district feel.  For Katrina we had some of the warehouse thing, but after that we did the classic architecture thing and dressed up.  We also added some great garden elements at the end.

Thanks for a great session Katrina.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

Elle’s Senior Session

August 16th, 2008

Most of my clients tell me before their session how nervous they have been all day. Being in front of the camera isn’t the most natural thing we will ever do in our life. What do I do?  What if I do it wrong?  Did I bring the right clothes?  Everyone else looks like a model in their images. Will my images look good too?  Since I added a blog to my website about a year ago, only 2 clients have ever modeled before. Care to guess which ones they are? That being said, if others can look great in front of the camera, you can look great too. Be yourself, have fun, and leave the rest to me!

Elle’s mom said that Elle was a little nervous before the session, and that is pretty common. Once we started shooting though, she looked totally at ease in front of the camera.

All the images below were taken in downtown St.Paul. The first images were in a totally nasty alleyway, the kind of place where half of the St.Paul pigeon population would roost. It wasn’t pretty, but the light was great and we stepped carefully. Thankfully Elle & her mom were great sports.

Narrowing the images down to 21 for the blog wasn’t easy. Top to bottom it was a great session.

Thanks for a fun evening Elle. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Javorina Family Session

August 15th, 2008

Yesterday afternoon I worked with the Javorina family.  Earlier in August I met with the mom and we talked about the personalities of her kids and the images she wanted to create.  Pulling into the driveway I could see the son’s personality coming through.  He was shooting hoops and his body language said it all.  Mom was right on the money.  Then I got to meet their daughter and again, mom nailed it.  One was very confident and the other very sweet.

The mom will be the ultimate judge of whether the images reflect who they are.  I can’t wait for her feedback.

Enjoy the sneak peek!

Logan’s Senior Session

August 14th, 2008

Yesterday afternoon I worked with Logan. We had a great time in the Anoka area. It was a fun mix of places I’ve used in the past as well as new places.

Logan cracks me up. He has a great sense of humor and is totally comfortable in his own skin. If he was ever nervous it sure didn’t show. In many ways Logan and I are wired alike, especially when it comes to humor. I have a list of my favorite movies on my facebook page and I’m willing to bet that Logan and I overlap on most of them, especially when it comes to comedy.

A the end of the shoot we stopped off at “Millie’s”. It is a little neighborhood store on the east side of Crooked Lake in Coon Rapids (or is it Andover?). It is run by a little 93-year-old woman named (your guessed it) Millie. Its the kind of place that all the neighborhood kids go to on their bikes to spend their paper route money on things like ice creme treats and candy. Logan’s mom bought me a cherry freezy and I felt like I was back in grade school.

Awesome job Logan. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Tice Family Session

August 13th, 2008

The first weekend in August my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, which is a pretty cool milestone. Each year they spend the first weekend in Grand Marais along the north Shore of Lake Superior to celebrate their anniversary and this year my brother Aaron and his family and my tribe all headed north too.

While we were there, I had a mini-session with Aaron & his family. I love working with the 3 girls. They photograph so well and love the experience. We have at least 1 session per year, but I think we’ll probably bump it to 2 times per year. So, by the time the girls hit high school they should be ready to launch a modeling career! They will have a ton of experience in front of the camera.

Aaron & Paula, enjoy the sneak peek.

Asha’s Senior Session

August 9th, 2008

This afternoon I worked with Asha. Her sister joined us and so did my sister-in-law Paula who is an awesome hair stylist and makeup artist. We had a great time working in the downtown Minneapolis area.

Asha has such awesome features. The way the whites of her eyes contrast with her skin is just stunning. During our consultation she mentioned that she wasn’t into the tight close-up images, but I found myself always drawn in and couldn’t help myself. So Asha, hopefully after seeing some of these images you’ll change your mind!

Thanks for an awesome session Asha. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Melanie’s Senior Session

August 9th, 2008

Yesterday I had an awesome time working with Melanie. I can’t remember the last time someone paid as much attention to every detail. Mel knew the exact outfits with the exact hair to create the look she wanted. Accessories were all in order and she had a great feel for different poses depending on the setting and what she was wearing. It was down right….well….professional! Not only did she have everything pulled together, but she was fun to work with too.

Great job Melanie. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Brenna’s Senior Session

August 8th, 2008

On Thursday I was in the west metro for Brenna’s senior session. I love any time I can get out of the city. For me anything west of the Twin Cities is truly God’s country. The open skies and rolling hills are the perfect remedy for a stressful day.

Brenna and her family have 5 horses and plenty of open fields for riding. Their house has a great porch for portraits. So, the setting couldn’t have been better.

After shooting at the house we headed to an area lake for some beach shots at the end of the day. Brenna did a great job with her outfits and created some wonderful variety with her hair. Thanks for a great session Brenna. Enjoy your sneak peek!

Ali’s Senior Session

August 7th, 2008

Last night I had a great session with Ali, her sister and her mom. They live in a beautiful home overlooking one of the metro area lakes. I always talk about the afternoon and early evening light. There is something special about the light as it gets closer to the horizon. For a photographer there is nothing else like it.

Ali and her sister Kelly were so much fun to work with. Kelly had a great way of encouraging Ali and helping to bring out her best. i love the images of the sisters together. It is pretty apparent that they are friends as well as sisters.

Great job Ali. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Danielle & Nathan’s Wedding

August 5th, 2008

It was a perfect day for an outdoor wedding. July weddings can get interesting. I’ve been rained on and cooked to a crisp all in the same day. For Danielle & Nathan it was a joy to be outside in such a beautiful place.

I was amazed at everything that went into Danielle & Nathan’s wedding. Danielle’s hair, makeup, dress, shoes….. all were perfect. The grounds and reception hall were dripping with crystals! The bridesmaids looked awesome, and the groomsmen I could tell wished that they had been pampered like their counterparts on the other side of the aisle.

The thing I loved most was how close these families were. Nathan and Danielle will create a great family together not by accident, but because of the example they have had while growing up. I especially loved watching the interaction between Danielle and her dad. There is nothing better.

Enjoy your sneak peek Nathan & Danielle,
