Last week I had a great session with Lindsey, her mom, and 2 of her friends.  On our way to St.Paul we stopped at a Caribou Coffee and I ran into a client that I worked with last year.  (Chelsea, October 2008)  Because I only work with 1 client per day (2 if I get backed up due to weather), I can actually remember the people I’ve worked with.  In most cases I can rattle off what we did on a particular session, what they wore, and what they were going to do for school. Last week when I returned from LA I had a session with Kayla.  Kayla is a student at Coon Rapids High School.  One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting to know new families, and in the case of Coon Rapids I’ve been getting to know a huge cluster of families.  Each of the students come to their session with an entourage of friends, which makes for a fun time. A week or so ago I had a session with Miranda in Minneapolis.  Some sessions are more challenging than others.  For Miranda we had some crazy wind, so in addition finding some great light, and some colors and compositions that were a great fit with Miranda, the wind also needed to be factored in. I feel like I say this all the time, but this was TRULY one of my favorite sessions of the year.  Amanda is my niece and Kelsey is her step sister.  My wife Natasha and I have been have been married for 17 years and Amanda was in our wedding images as a baby.  Fast forward and here I am taking her senior pictures. Last Saturday morning I had a great session with Megan. It was one of those classic crisp fall days as we started in Minneapolis around 9:30.  Everything was still a little damp as the sun started to slowly warm everything.  Lucky for us there was very little wind where we were shooting.  With Megan’s amazing head of hair I was very thankful for the day we had. From time to time a graduating high school senior comes through my door who makes me tilt my head and go… “huh?”  Every session starts at my place with a consultation, usually a week or so before the actual session.  It’s a time for us to get to know each other and for me to learn what makes each person tick. Last week I had a session with Chelsea. We started at her church in Brooklyn Park and the goal was to capture who she is as a musician. The church sanctuary where we photographed had great west-facing windows and another bank of windows that faced south. Read more.. »

Yesterday afternoon we had one of the most beautiful days in well over a week.  With Emily we made the most of it.  What a fun session.  We were joined by Emily’s mom & dad and also her friend Alicia and Alicia’s mom.  This winter I’ll have a chance to work with Alicia, so the circle of fun continues.
