March 2 – March 12 we took a vacation with the family. It was the first time that we’ve hopped on an airplane and headed across the country in search of an adventure.
We flew into Phoenix and drove up to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, via Sedona. After that we headed to LA (Disneyland), on to San Diego (beach & zoo), Twentynine Palms (Joshua Tree National Park and visiting friends) and then back to Phoenix and home. We drove 1,800 miles and saw mountains, desert and the ocean.
The kids knew nothing about the trip until we woke them at 4:00 AM on Monday the 2nd. Needless to say they were surprised and thrilled.
A few days after a big adventure I always sit back and reflect on things I learned along the way, and since this is my blog, its a perfect forum for sharing.
–> This group of images is a mini-representation of my life. Family and art are all swirled together into something strange and beautiful at the same time. Being a photographer operating from my home it all just mixes together.
–> After spending time in the desert, I understand why people in the Bible often went there to fast and to meditate. There is something very special about the desert. The elements are simple….sand, sky, a few mountains and lots of horizon line in every direction. Its a good thinking place.
–> Traveling with the family means there is little if any “me” time. There was no time to put on the artist hat and concentrate on making images. Kids were always needing something. So, when I saw something interesting it meant I needed to be quick, no time to think about the camera. It just needed to be an extension of me, something that just flowed. After looking at the images I realized how far I’ve come as an artist. There is so much more I want to do, but for now I can pause and look back at the trail behind me and see how far I’ve come.
Enjoy the images. Let me know your favorites. I’m considering making some into fine art images and would love the feedback.

Hi. I looked through these when you posted them, I just today had the time to read what you wrote. You wanted some feedback…so here it is…there is not one picture that I didn’t like. How is that? Your eye throught the lens is amazing. Your family and all who come in contact with you are very blessed!
Wow Chris! I’m honored and humbled. You’ve left me speechless, and that takes a lot.
Hope all is well with you and your family.
